The Chalakudy river rushes from the Western Ghats and at Athirappilly, drops won steeply in sizzling silver cascades that mesmerize all those who come to visit it. The Water-filled Wonder

The lower Sholayar Dam is just about 60 kms from the resort. A tourist attraction – one can only be amazed at this large reservoir of water in this second largest rock dam in Asia which measures about 20 Kms in length. It is an important water reservoir which comes under the the Parambikulam-Aliyar Project. The open vistas and the unending spread of the waters and the gush of the water through the gates of the dam are all sights to enjoy. One would need permission to enter the dam and this can be got from the office at the dam entrance.

Hanging Bridge Thumboormuzhi

Here is a quaint little tourist spot just about three kilometers away. One could literally walk to the Thumboormuzhi hanging bridge where there is a nice little butterfly park which has been known to host over 140 species of butterflies. The experience of crossing the bridge over the river is a great experience and you can take a lot of fabulous photographs.

Charpa Water Falls

Charpa Falls is a waterfall located in Athirappilly panchayath in Thrissur district of Kerala. Located on the west-flowing Chalakudy River, this waterfall lies in between the more famous Athirappilly Falls and Vazhachal Falls. It is a popular stopover for tourists who are visiting the Athirappilly and Vazhachal Falls. It is located close to the road,and during monsoon months (June to August), the water splashes onto the road. During the dry season, the water stops flowing.

The Majestic Powerhouse

The Peringalkuthu Dam is a sight to behold. This is a hydro electric project run by the Kerala State Electricity Board. This is the first hydro electric power project to build on the Chalakkudi River and plays a significant role in providing electricity to the State of Kerala. The dam is restricted area and special permission is necessary to venture out into the forests or the dam itself. The view from above the dam is majestic and breathtaking. The weather at the locality is cool, the air is unspoiled and there is greenery all around.
